I would suggest you avoid free web hosting unless you are going to run a site that will get very little traffic. You can pick up some good hosting for like $59 usd a year which is well worth it especially if you plan on running a site that you plan on making money from. Here are a few reasons why free hosting does not work:
1. Very little bandwidth which means if you get alot of traffic to your site than you can plan on your site being down when you hit the bandwidth allowed which trust me it is very little.
2. Most of the free hosting that is available does not support most of the programming languages such as PHP and Java etc…
3. Your site will be weighed down with forced ads. This is how the hosting company pays for your free hosting.
4. You never really own your site and you won’t have access to FTP

My experience with free web hosting is very pathetic. Their services suck and you can’t host your professional website. For amateur web hosting, free web hosts are good. wordpress(dot)com is free. But i really prefere the weebly services because they are free, you have a web site and you will have your own blog for free.
