A typical query:
I’ve done a bit of research about the advantages to Web hosting services. Amazon seems pretty good, but I’m wondering about the disadvantages. (I’m not talking about free Web hosting. I mean the kind that you pay for and get your own domain under a company like Amazon.com.) Any help is greatly appreciated! Thank you in advance.
Answer: This is quite a popular question. Free website hosting is probably not for you if you are serious about having a website. Web hosting is the heart of your online presence and can mean the life or death to your business.
To answer your query, here are 7 qualities to look for in a good web hosting. An excellent hosting:
- does not suspend accounts easily like other cheap hosting,
- gives more-than-enough diskspace,
- offers unlimited bandwidth,
- gives unlimited add-on domains,
- has friendly Site Builder with thousands of unique templates,
- has QuickInstall to quickly install apps like WordPress, Joomla, Drupal, OSCommerce, ZenCart and more
- can be easily upgraded to VPS or one of the best dedicated server plans if and when your business require.

Hostgator Complaints
No web hosting service is perfect. Some complaints about Hostgator plans include:
- No free domain name included – but you can easily get a domain name from the best domain registrar such as Godaddy or Namecheap for $10 or less. Would you agree that a website is not complete without a domain name?
- You need to pay full price after your first invoice – well, they need to make money too and all the support and great service do come with a cost. It is like they say, you get what you pay for.

Web hosting just isn’t their thing. There are so many great affordable hosting companies.. who do only that. Hosting.
I host with SiteServing and love them. They have really affordable plans, very easy to figure out… easy enough for a noob but of course if you are a developer.. they have VPS and dedi too.
They have great support (which is important)
They give you a free sitebuiler and other free things (the sitebuilder is VERY easy to use)
You can buy your domain right when you are checking out.. so all in one easy-shopping
That’s about it.. I LOVE them though. Best host I’ve ever used.
Check out their website and see what you think: http://www.siteserving.com
**do not use bluehost, justhost, godaddy.. horrible hosts

I am most familiar with the Amazon AWS cloud service made for higher performance sites, they are not a big name in basic site hosting or domain names. Hosting a complete site on the Amazon cloud service get quite expensive, their basic AWS storage service is reasonably cheap and may still have an extended free trail period. Some wordpress blogs use a plugin that offloads the actual file storage from their cheap host, onto AWS, resulting in a faster loading site for not too much server expense.
Godaddy is an example domain name registrar that also offers hosting, their hosting is nothing special, it’s pretty standard for an $8 "unlimited" shared hosting account offered by countless hosts to include a domain name with a 1 year contract. Some say it’s better to get a domain name from a separate source, some bundled services make it expensive or difficult to transfer your name to another host, which is your right.
Hostgator is probably the most recommended host, doesn’t look that special to me, they may have better support than most, they also have a high paying affiliate program, one makes around $100 for bringing them a new customer, this might have to do with the recommendations.
