So, As you may know Geocities will be closing down October 26, 2009.
All of my web pages are being hosted from Geocities though, They are for my DIV Layout/Profile for several websites. So, My question is: Are there any web page hosters that are set up similar to Geocities?
All help on this subject would greatly be appreciated and the one who helps me the most will be rewarded with the best answer + 10 Points. đ
Answer: You are not alone. Many affordable hosting is plagued with inflexibility on their resource limits and haunted by unprofessional support. Web hosting is the heart of your business and can mean the start or the end of your business.
Before we answer your question, let us review the 7 qualities to look for in a good web hosting. An excellent hosting:
- has excellent support and rated at least A+ by Better Business Bureau (BBB),
- gives unlimited diskspace,
- offers unlimited bandwidth,
- gives multiple add-on domains,
- has friendly Site Builder with thousands of unique templates,
- has QuickInstall to quickly install apps like WordPress, Joomla, Drupal, OSCommerce, ZenCart and more
- can be easily upgraded to VPS or one of the best dedicated server plans if and when your business require.
To answer your question, why not try Hostgator. If you need an âunlimitedâ hosting plan, experts usually highly recommend going with Hostgator because they are the best hosting and domain registrar around.

Hostgator Complaints
No web hosting service is perfect. Some complaints about Hostgator plans include:
- No free domain name included – but you can easily get a domain name from the best domain registrar such as Godaddy or Namecheap for $10 or less. Would you agree that a website is not complete without a domain name?
- You need to pay full price after your first invoice – well, they need to make money too and all the support and great service do come with a cost. It is like they say, you get what you pay for.

Well , there is hostgator , google host yahoo and godaddy.
But the most recommended and best web host so far is http://www.NetworkJuiceHosting.com ; Network Juice.
They now offer plans starting around $0.99/mo for a great amount of diskspace plus everything else unlimited. Plus they’ve manage to keep up 99% Uptime.
They have all features such as PHP5, java ,Cpanel , Fantastico ( allows you to auto install Blogging systems and CMS portals without wasting time) , Cron Job , Apache ,Unlimited Dadabase , ftp accounts and much more. Basically EVERYTHING! is supported.
There are other affordable plans as well in NetworkJuiceHosting.com.
Hostgator.com is also a great host , but there Uptime time is not so good. Also , customer service is very poor , Not to many features are supported.
Google.com not so sure , But i know there’s lots of files they do not support , no Cpanel , and i don’t know how come , but they have been receiving downtimes lately in their host servers.
yahoo , let me just say it’s the worst web host ever ,you can’t even host the amount of domains you want to host . Including FatCow.com. The downtime is way to much , and many files are un-compatible in fatcow for some reason.
To buy a domain , the most recommended site is godaddy , but not for it’s hosting!! I Tell you !!!.
For a Great Affordable web host with maximum features , the most recommended web host is http://www.NetworkJuiceHosting.com . ; Network Juice Hosting.
You are getting your answers from an expert , and yes I have tried all these web host.
That’s all I got to say mate đ

I hope you are getting your Geocities pages so you don’t have to redo the whole site.
Geocities – How to Backup Online Files:
You can use FTP only if Geocities allows use of FTP access. If not, to fully get ALL your folders and files in working order on your hard drive, log into your account and see what the directory structure is that you are using. Makw one EXACTLY like that with the same named folders. The "root" folder can just be the domain name of your site if you wish for now.
I say to do it this way as you MUST maintain all folders and files in the SAME relationship as you have them online. Do NOT use a "Save as" "Web Site, Complete" as this does not grab all files.
Unfortunately, Your File Manger only has the Uploader Utility so you will have to pick a folder and start opening EACH file for edit so you can copy/paste.
If you want to make it easier on yourself, you can make identical blank files on your hard drive in the correct folders using Notepad. Just open and make new. Do a "Save As" and give the file the name you will be copying from online and add the extension (.html if that’s what you use) when saving. Or, just open a new file for each one online. Keep both Notepad and the online File Manager’s Editor open with the file to be copied.
Click inside file online to bring focus, do a Ctrl + A (select all), then do a Ctrl + C (copy). Return to Notepad and click inside new file. Do a Ctrl + V (paste). Make sure you save the file with its correct name and extension.
Do this for EVERY page you have online. Now, for the images, if they are on your hard drive, just copy or move them into their respective folder(s) you made for your files. If not on your hard drive, go to every page in your browser, select the image you need, right-click on image and select "Save Image As". Browse to folder where image is suppose to go in relation to the page it is on. Do that for every image you need from your site.
Double check that your site works from your hard drive by dragging/dropping your index.html file into an open browser window. Click all links and see if correct page and images come up.
That’s it. Long way, but it guarantees you get it ALL properly.
