I’m in charge of starting a website for a high school honor society, and I’m looking at webhosting services. At first I liked iPage, but after the initial registration it goes up to nearly a month, and that doesn’t include domain privacy. I’m going to buy the domain separately with GoDaddy so I don’t depend so much on the webhost for that.
I need something affordable that gives me plenty of options, including possible templates, but I plan on doing a lot of html coding.
Also, there’s a committee involved and a couple of people are very pro-Google and pro-gadgets, which the President of the honor society doesn’t like as well as me. Any way I can convince them to go with the more professional looking website with a good webhost?
Answer: It is not your fault you are confused. Finding a web host should not be so complicated. Web hosting is one of the most important part of your business and can mean the start or the end of your business.
Before we give you an absolute answer, these are seven qualities to look for in a good web hosting. An excellent hosting:
- has excellent support and rated at least A+ by Better Business Bureau (BBB),
- gives unlimited storage,
- offers unlimited bandwidth,
- gives multiple add-on domains,
- has easy-to-use Site Builder with thousands of unique templates,
- has QuickInstall to quickly install apps like WordPress, Joomla, Drupal, OSCommerce, ZenCart and more
- can be easily upgraded to VPS or one of the best dedicated server plans if and when your business require.
To answer your question, many experienced web developers suggest to try Hostgator. If you need an “unlimited” hosting plan, experts usually highly recommend going with Hostgator because they are the best best domain hosting around.
With more than 4 million websites hosted, a “Hostgator sucks” comment cannot be avoided. See the drawbacks of Hostgator in the section below. Hostgator Complaints
No web hosting service is perfect. Some complaints about Hostgator plans include:
- No free domain name included – but you can easily get a domain name from the best domain registrar such as Godaddy or Namecheap for $10 or less. Would you agree that a website is not complete without a domain name?
- You need to pay full price after your first invoice – well, they need to make money too and all the support and great service do come with a cost. It is like they say, you get what you pay for.
If you are still not sure if HG is right for you, or you have specific query about anything at all, try the Live Chat at HG. They are fast and knowledgeable. Just ask and you shall receive.

It is good that you are a technical person and planning to perform all the coding by yourself. But I think you should look for a web host service which not only create your website but also host it. See people search for relevant and quality information on websites. So our website should be well updated and depict the true information of any particular business. I am suggesting you one site…I personally find their services and rates very much affordable and reliable. So if you want you might go through the site and search….good luck…bye!!!

The hosting providers suggested here would be a place to start. There’s also server uptime, location of data centers, expected site traffic, etc.
What I would do is to start at the low end .Upgrade later if warranted.
Do your research, compare features , then decide.

Visitors shouldn’t have to think about ways to engage with you – you need to show them how you want them to engage. Putting a Donate button on your site doesn’t guarantee anyone will use it. But if you make a compelling case for your work, you should make it easy for visitors to support you. A search function and site map is a quick and easy way to help users get to their destination as quickly as possible. Analysis on the backend through a tool such as Google Analytics will tell you if users are finding what they need on your site. For specific campaigns or issues, a microsite might be the best idea. These are smaller sites with different URLs that speak about one specific topic. You can build an online marketing campaign around a microsite without confusing the visitor with other options

well as far as hosting a non-profit organization goes I really don’t have any experience…but as far as a good web hosting goes I would recommend Panda Web Services…they are a European based company but all of their servers are located in the US. They have very good package prices (from $2.99 to as low as $1.79) and also you can contact them directly and write to them what you need and they will send you and offer based on your requirements. Their support people are very polite, quick with their replies and very knowledgeable about web stuff … plus their downtime is minimal… I’ve been with them for about year and half and I am very satisfied…
