Answer: It is not your fault you are confused. Finding a web host should not be so complicated. Web hosting is the heart of your web presence and can mean the life or death to your business.
Before we give you an absolute answer, these are seven qualities to look for in a good web hosting. An excellent hosting:
- has at least 30 days money back guarantee,
- gives more-than-enough webspace,
- offers unlimited bandwidth,
- gives unlimited add-on domains,
- has easy-to-use Site Builder with thousands of unique templates,
- has QuickInstall to quickly install apps like WordPress, Joomla, Drupal, OSCommerce, ZenCart and more
- can be easily upgraded to VPS or one of the best dedicated server plans if and when your business require.

Hostgator Complaints
No web hosting service is perfect. Some complaints about Hostgator plans include:
- No free domain name included – but you can easily get a domain name from the best domain registrar such as Godaddy or Namecheap for $10 or less. Would you agree that a website is not complete without a domain name?
- You need to pay full price after your first invoice – well, they need to make money too and all the support and great service do come with a cost. It is like they say, you get what you pay for.

Hi Rebecca,
pleased to meet you 🙂 I have thought marketing and communications at the University of Arizona for the past 27 years and can tell you that choosing the right host is a crucial step towards building a successful website. You have to be careful because most entrepreneurs on the Internet work as affiliates for nearly all hosting companies that are out there. There is nothing bad in that. I do it too. But for this reason, as well as the fact that different people have different needs, I would recommend doing your very own research before committing yourself to any hosting plan.
A tip I would like to give is to go to: http://tools.pingdom.com/fpt/. Find a website that is hosted by the companies that catch your attention and use the ping tool on that website (you can find a list on their forums usually). Check out the stats and decide for yourself. You may need to do some further investigation but as they say give a man a fish and you’ll feed him for one day; teach him how to fish and you’ll feed him for the rest of his life! The most important things to look at are the DNS and server connect times. If they take too long (over 5s) you are doomed to lose over half of your clicks while the page loads. Also check out the bandwidth. Many small services have excellent response times and awful bandwidths (amount of GB allowed to be transferred per month) – a tactic that is used to force customers into upgrading to high end packages as soon as their websites gain a minimum amount of traffic. Such services also make it difficult to transfer your domain name factually locking you into a trap. I am personally against registering free domains with any hosting company or transferring them. Instead register with an independent service for this very reason.
Speed and functionality is the most important consideration for a business website. Other factors to take into consideration are: customer service, uptime, reliability, features (do you use a platform that needs ASP? Do you need SSL?)
The top host I would recommend for ease of use, customer service and manageability is this:

I myself have over 40 websites hosted with this host with 3 sites upgraded to dedicated hosting. I also recommended the host to a friend who has an exceptionally large and successful website that generates a 6-figure monthly income and the service is being handled pretty well (not flawlessly since they had some server issues in January but still the best, at least in my seasoned experience).
Just test this and other services you find around as I explained and decide for yourself but learn how to evaluate hosts on your own especially if you plan to manage different kinds of websites. You don’t need to buy hosting from every single dealer to evaluate them. Just check out other sites hosted by them. It’s that easy!
Good luck and let us know how you’re doing!
