A affordable website hosting question:
My friend is an upcoming music artist. I am helping her out by creating a website for her.
She needs a website where we can have 30sec samples of her music.
She also wants users to be able to buy and download her music.
Please could someone advise me as to what companies we can use for hosting and how to add the download functionality.
Also I know there are companies where you can have a free website but most of the ones I have tried out are mostly suited for blogs.
Since she is just starting out, she needs something affordable (if not free).
She does not need a lot of storage space right now, she is willing to start small and update later.
Thank you.
Thanks having a bad day.
Just to clarify I know how to create websites, at least the basics.
I am looking for free web hosting and also what programs I can use for downloading and most important for people to purchase her music.
Thanks for the information though. I will get that copy of Dreamweaver.
Thank you all for your suggestions.
Keep them coming.
They are all very helpful!

you need e-commerce hosting. generally costs $25/mo. rules are strict because usually you need to meet PCI compliance, and that is usually done by the hosting.
as for web editors, either buy dreamweaver, or get notepad++ (free) or kompozer (free).

Bluehost.com is what I use. They’re affordable, have several plans available, and have e-commerce solutions included in the hosting. They’ve also got amazing tech support, and offer optional development services.
P.S. – Dreamweaver sucks… especially if you’re building something that has to actually function. If you need an editor, get a real (and free) editor, like Eclipse.
