A typical query:
We hava a guest house in Cumbria and we need to promote ourselves on-line, but we don’t want it to cost the earth. Is there an affordable solution?
Thanks to Savvy A. for going to such lengths.
Answer: This is quite a popular question. Free website hosting is probably not for you if you are serious about having a website. Web hosting is the heart of your web presence and can mean the success and failure for your business.
Before we answer your question, let us review the 7 qualities to look for in a good web hosting. An excellent hosting:
- has at least 30 days money back guarantee,
- gives more-than-enough storage,
- offers unlimited bandwidth,
- gives unlimited add-on domains,
- has friendly Site Builder with thousands of unique templates,
- has QuickInstall to quickly install apps like WordPress, Joomla, Drupal, OSCommerce, ZenCart and more
- can be easily upgraded to VPS or one of the best dedicated server plans if and when your business require.
To answer your question, why not try Hostgator. If you are building your first website and needs a hosting plan, experts usually highly recommend going with Hostgator because they are the best hosting and domain registrar around.

Hostgator Complaints
No web hosting service is perfect. Some complaints about Hostgator plans include:
- No free domain name included – but you can easily get a domain name from the best domain registrar such as Godaddy or Namecheap for $10 or less. Would you agree that a website is not complete without a domain name?
- You need to pay full price after your first invoice – well, they need to make money too and all the support and great service do come with a cost. It is like they say, you get what you pay for.
If you are still not sure if HG is right for you, or you have specific query about anything at all, try the Live Chat at HG. They are fast and knowledgeable. Just ask and you shall receive.

We have recently set up a service specifically for small businesses in Cumbria and can arrange everything, giving you a domain name (your own internet address), a stylish site (with your choice of colours, fonts, etc) designed to work well with search engines, hosting for a year and free updates for info on the site, plus search engine submissions – all for less than 90 pounds. Because we have a special connection with cumbria we will also be able to help you promote your business in other ways and connect you to other useful services in the area (e.g. if you want to have on-line bookings).

Most definitely feasible.
That is something that I do for a living and, believe me, it is going to cost you way less than many firms charge for the same exact PROFESSIONAL work.
You can have a portal deployed and customized for a very affordable price.

Depends what you want to do.
If you’re just trying to put up a small website to promote a bed and breakfast so that people know where to find it and whom to call, and you want to add maybe a couple picture so they can see what the front and the back garden looks like, post a price or two, then you don’t have to pay at all. I suggest you go to freewebs.com (no called webs.com).
You can build a site for free. If you choose to upgrade, they give you the option to pay. Very easy drop and drag. They have these little buttons and icons you can move over.
Costs you nothing. However, website name will be a sub domain, and not a top level domain, meaning:
Suppose you have a bed and breakfast small business called: cumbriahut.
You want to call it CumbriaHut.com (a .com is always easier to remember than anything else).
If you sign up for freewebs, it will come out looking like:
CumbriaHut.webs.com. You’ll be a subdomain of webs.com.
Now, that’s fine if you don’t care that people remember that and they get to your business anyway; however, to be a professional business that people take seriously on the net, it’s best to get a top-level domain (TLD). But then you may to consider purchasing webhosting just to connect the website to the domain name.
Another free site is Google Pages.
If you want to get into webhosting, you can also check webhosting companies in the UK. Just type in UK webhosting and see what you get.
If you’re looking for a cheap web designer, then I recommend porcupineonline.com. You can ask for a free quote. However, you’ll have to sign up for webhosting, usually the one the designer is using. Theirs is pretty cheap. When you pay for webhosting, you pay for the whole year at once.

If you just want a web presence you probably just need a cheap template. If you have higher ambitions then you need a properly designed and coded site that will expand with you.
