Hi all,
I am wanting to create a website to briefly outline 1) my work as a graduate student (and future PhD) and 2) two personal pages outlining my work as an activist as well as my work as an artist.
In total, I am only really in need of 6 pages–including a "main" page. Obviously, I will not be selling anything on my site….it will just be a personal/professional page.
Does anyone have any recommendations for what web hosting site I should go through to complete this (as in, I am willing to pay per year to sponsor my site)? Ultimately, I do not want ANY ads on my page. Also, if you have created one yourself through a web hosting service, could you provide a link to your page for me to see?
Thanks!
I am skilled it HTML, so please no more offers to help me design the page. I am just shopping for the best deal. Thanks for the offers, though.
Answer: It is not your fault you are confused. Finding a web host should not be so complicated. Web hosting is the heart of your business and can mean the start or the end of your business.
Before we answer your question, let us review the 7 qualities to look for in a good web hosting. An excellent hosting:
- has friendly Live Chat to help you with your query,
- gives unlimited webspace,
- offers no limit on bandwidth,
- gives unlimited add-on domains,
- has friendly Site Builder with thousands of unique templates,
- has QuickInstall to quickly install apps like WordPress, Joomla, Drupal, OSCommerce, ZenCart and more
- can be easily upgraded to VPS or one of the best dedicated server plans if and when your business require.
To answer your question, why not try Hostgator. If you are building your first website and needs a hosting plan, experts usually highly recommend going with Hostgator because they are the best hosting and domain registrar around.
With more than 4 million websites hosted, a “Hostgator sucks” comment cannot be avoided. See the drawbacks of Hostgator in the section below. Objectively, HG has an amazingly long, 45 days money back guarantee so you have ample time to test them out. They are rated A+ by Better Business Bureau which shows their commitment to customer satisfaction. You also do not have to pay for the first month. You can just try their fully functional hosting service – you pay only $0.01 (you need to use the special coupon code). Do you know any other hosting company that can give you that kind of assurance? Hostgator Complaints
No web hosting service is perfect. Some complaints about Hostgator plans include:
- No free domain name included – but you can easily get a domain name from the best domain registrar such as Godaddy or Namecheap for $10 or less. Would you agree that a website is not complete without a domain name?
- You need to pay full price after your first invoice – well, they need to make money too and all the support and great service do come with a cost. It is like they say, you get what you pay for.
If you are still not sure if HG is right for you, or you have specific query about anything at all, try the Live Chat at HG. They are fast and knowledgeable. Just ask and you shall receive.

On today’s market there are literally thousands of web hosting providers. Choosing a web host is not an easy task. Find out as much as you can about your prospective web host before making any decisions. I recommend read web hosting reviews to get an idea of what are the top rated hosting companies.
The perfect web hosting directory (I use it myself) to get an idea of what web hosting companies are the most popular, the most successful, or even the most affordable is http://www.webhostingfact.com
This web hosting directory incorporates in-depth research, first-hand experience, and analysis of comprehensive consumer reviews to rank your top web hosting options.
Also, make sure you get the best deals (extremely important if you are on a budget). You can find web hosting coupons and promo codes that will save you a lot of money when you purchase your web hosting package, the website is http://www.mywebhostingcoupons.com
And finally, while doing your research, make sure that you are using credible websites, be on the look out for scams.
Good luck,
Kyle

Try GeekStorage.com, they’re quite cheap and reliable. I can also help you setup your web page If you don’t know how to create web pages.

If it is just for personal use and you aren’t expecting heavy traffic I suggest dreamhost.com or gatorhost.com. You can search online for ‘promotional codes’ for each of these sites to make them even cheaper.
I personally like dreamhost, they always have good coupon codes on the internet. I just bought from them again 6 months ago and ended up getting a year of hosting plus 2 domain name registrations (usualy 10 bucks each) all for like 60 bucks.

Webhostingpad and Hostgator are both cheap and reliable web hosts. I have used Hostgator for a few years with no problems and they have great customer service.
